Hello friends Manoj Vats here. I never thought in my life that I will be on the remotest point of world. Arrive at the end of world to realize that the road is just beginning. great opportunity for me to be a member of Indian navy south-pole team.
Our journey starts on 22 Nov 06 from New Delhi via Mumbai-Paris-Newyork-Lima-Santiago. In between halt at Newyork, I see the famous statue of Liberty, Times square &Empire state building. I come to know about times square when I watch movie “love at times square” directed by Devanand in year 2004,in which 3-4 songs are composed & sung by Lucky Ali,my favorite singer ,reached Santiago on 25 Nov 06 via Lima(capital of Peru).I visited the Santiago main port Valparaiso from where Chile natural resources exported
Playing tennis & swimming in hotel Crown Plaza are memorable. on 30 Nov 06 we depart for Punta arenas, southernmost tip of Chile, which is the capital city of Magellan’s region &Chilean Antarctica. along with its modern outlay & clean streets with all kind of facilities such as airport ,Banks, Gyms, Supermarket, museums Universities, Hotels Theatre ,Travel agents and duty free zone etc. There we visited main square(plaza de armas) where there is a reclined Magellan native whose toes are touched by tourists to comply with the legend that those who touch them will come back once again to the city. I also visited penguins colony in Otway sound .Penguins are a astonishing divers which can reach depths of more than 100m they generally live in small colonies and renowned for being docile and fairly timid. I did some photography of penguins.
Doing physical exercises in early morning in fresh air in a place like Punta Arenas is a great experience. life in Punta arenas is highly modernized/westernized with young guys kissing the lips of their girlfriends in open spaces. I posted a greeting card to my home. Now days we are in Chile port town raring to cross the drake passage to land at patriot hill base camp. Flights schedule and Antarctic itinerary may vary depending in weather conditions and we are waiting for clear weather for our final target-coldest ,highest, driest, and least inhabited continent that is ANTARCTICA. Dream of reaching geographical south pole, where the ice is almost 3000m thick and feel beneath your feet 360 lines of longitude meeting, will comes true once we start our ski traverse and our physical fitness, mental and moral strength ,determination ,courage, endurance, never say die spirit and most important perfect teamwork will be tested.
